Innovation Lab Project

Innovation Lab Project: Due Thursday December 11th

We have this amazing new Innovation Lab that has been started by our Science Dept. they are now turning to us, the Statisticians on campus, to help them gather and analyze data.

  • Design
    • Mr. Gardiner will introduce each of you to different areas of the lab where they would like to gather data and/or introduce you to different questions they would like to have answered.
    • Working in groups of 3 you will write up a complete design plan.
    • You must work within the constraints of this environment.
      • We are at a school so time, money, materials are all limited. Your fellow researchers will be students (many may be Freshmen).
  • Data Analysis
    • Univariate
      • You must choose one variable to do complete exploratory data analysis on.
      • This may be from data you collected through your design. Or data that has been collected by the science classes thus far.
      • You must have at least 10 data values.
      • You must graph your data, give numerical and verbal descriptions of your data.
    • Bivariate
      • You must choose two variables that you think may be correlated.
      • This may be from data you collected through your design. Or data that has been collected by the science classes thus far.
      • You will first construct a hypothesis of the correlation.
      • You must have at least 10 data values for each variable.
      • You must graph your data, give numerical and verbal descriptions of your data.
      • You must decide if a model can be used to make predictions, and if so how accurate that model would be.
  • Postings
    • For each visit we make to the lab you will need to post about your progress.
      • These posts should include pictures and charts
    • For each visit we make to the lab you will also comment on another groups progress.
    • This will aid them in working through their design and then let everyone see what cool things we find through our data analysis.
      • Remember, this means you will be getting feedback as well.
  • Presentation
    • We will go to the Innovation lab and you will walk us through your design process.
    • Your presentation should be between 5 and 7 minutes in length.
    • Keep in mind what resources will be available to you while in the lab.
