Testimonial – Brian, Trevor, and Collier

We presented our project on May 25th in Mrs. Harrell’s room at lunch. Unfortunately, although we emailed 6 teachers/staff members, and some replied yes, none showed up. This may be due to S.T.A.R. awards and SAC Swimming occurring at the same time, or because they genuinely did not want to make an appearance and sit through our presentation.

Lucky for us, a fellow classmate of ours – Daryn Nguyen (Period 1) –  was in need of a car ride home so we took him to class to listen. Mrs. Harrell was also present and it seemed to be a successful presentation.

Here is what he had to say!

  1. Panopto is a great idea. Edison stats students are stellar. @ trevor and collier

Hello everyone,

We have slightly changed our project in order to keep us working with the time frame. We have decided to create a google form that will be given to all students in Mr. Nguyen’s Period 4 and Period 3 classes. He has four periods of math, however we randomly selected his period 2 and period 3 class to fill out the survey by grabbing those #’s out of a hat. These will also be the periods that we will implement the technology on and compare their grades to those in his other two classes.

until next time,

the trio!

Brian Piscopo, Trevor Fried, Collier Maruska: Together Project Post 1

Classmates,

Trevor, Collier, and I are proud to announce our commitment to join forces and work together on my design of implementing the lecture capture technology – Panopto. As this week begins, our plan is to work with Mr. Nguyen and the leaders of the Panopto Company. We will be emailing them for their rates and explaining our project in hopes of receiving a cheaper alternative to test out the product at Edison. If this is unattainable then the plan is to work with the 30-day free trial that they offer. From here, we will also be gathering the data of current grades in Mr. Nguyen’s math classes and running the technology before the experiment begins!

Love,

Brian Collier & Trevor 🙂

I uploaded my questions to a google form and tweeted it out! This will help me see if it is worth it to have our school invest in the lecture capture technology.

Please take it: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdJxIQFkPkFKm-16WyBoknFeRDT5R2cPVzPbxr3IZ4E4Y1Nmg/viewform

Thanks!

The final draft for our project write up is coming very soon so I made sure to analyze all the details of my design. Although I created this as an experiment in which we would implement the use of a 30-day free trial for the lecture capture software, I feel as if this is too short of a period to actually see if a change in grades (if there is one) is directly the result of using the program. Instead, I believe that I will be conveying a survey by creating a google form and distributing it to my twitter friends and emailing it to teachers as well. This will help me see if people would actually use and value it.

Some questions could include:

If you didn’t understand the lesson in class because the teacher was going too fast would you actually re watch the lecture?

If you were absent, would you go onto canvas to watch the in class lecture?

Could you actually see yourself watching your teacher’s lectures again?

etc…

From here, we can see if it is worth it to try out the program during the 2nd semester if my project is approved and if so, maybe invest money into actually purchasing the program for our school to use indefinitely!

After talking with Alyssa who peer reviewed my design, I have decided to see if other subjects want to participate in using Panopto as I was formerly only focusing on the subject of math. We can help spread the use of the technology through all subjects that have in class lectures and get a better idea of whether or not it could work on a wide scale!

Hey guys! So I am going to stick with my plan of incorporating a Lecture Capture Method technology known as Panopto and it is looking really good. This past week Mr. Nguyen was not at school so I was unable to cooperate with him, but I know that I will be working with his AP Calc AB & Algebra I classes. With these classes I will be performing an experiment that involves comparing their grades before and afterwards. Once I receive the data and firm up my plans this upcoming week I will provide you guys with another update!
